DRY BULK MANAGEMENT STANDARD (DryBMS)

On 21st January 2021 Rightship & Intercargo have released the draft Dry Bulk Management Standard (DryBMS).

DryBMS is the latest and most Sophisticated Quality Standard for the Dry Bulk Shipping Sector and aims to:

  1. Improve Operational Performance of Bulk Carriers.
  2. Increase significantly the Safety Standards in the Dry Bulk Shipping Industry.
  3. Improve Crew Welfare in Bulk Carriers.
  4. Encourage Dry Bulk Shipping Management Companies' Self Assessment & Evaluation.

The transition from the traditional ISM compliance to DryBMS culture will be a demanding process that will require from the Dry Bulk Shipping Companies radical and extensive changes at all management levels and will affect:
  1. Company’s Operational Policies & Procedures.
  2. Company’s Safety Management System.
  3. Management System Analysis & Review.
  4. Company’s & Vessels’ Risk Assessment.
  5. Vessel's Inspection Requirements.
  6. Training Program both ashore & onboard vessels.

DryBMS is a Self Assessment tool that includes:
  1. 4 Basic Tiers (Performance, People, Plant, Process) in which the Dry Bulk Operators must re-allocate their resources in order to achieve high-quality ship management.
  2. 30 Subject Areas of Shipmanagement, that Dry Bulk Operators are expected to meet up to a specific level and exceed (if possible).
  3. 4 Performance Levels (basic, intermediate, advanced, excellence) that Dry Bulk Operators will meet, depending on the percent that they align with the 30 Subject Areas of DryBMS.
